The methane from these cow has CO2e emissions of 52.7B metric tons. Despite popular belief, cow leather is not only a byproduct of food production, cows are being produced specifically for their skins in Countries like India. The cow leather industry in these types of Countries are unregulated. Exposure to Chromium means 90% of tannery workers get cancer. Every day, tanneries dump 22,000 cubic liters of toxic waste that negatively impacts 1.8M people that live close by. Positive Environmental Impact By Using Fish Leather The fish skins Sea uses are repurposed from the food industry in Europe. Vegetable dyes and renewable sources of energy are used to treat the skins. Substituting fish leather for cow leather can decrease CO2 emissions that contribute to global warming. In the food industry, 156 million tonnes of fish is produced each year. Yet the skins are merely discarded. Sea wants to change that, we want to repurpose this waste and put these fish skins to good use |
